    Van Darien

    9:00 pm

    van darien

Vanessa Darien is a hard-bitten lyricist with a flare for Americana Folklore. But Americana is not just an imagined theme for Vanessa, but something she has been strongly rooted in since a young age. Hailing from Weatherford, TX, Vanessa was raised in a home which also functioned as her father John's machine shop; it was in this shop Vanessa would become well versed in some of the finest American Roots music. From a junkyard of rusted cars, and a cast of characters both eclectic and eccentric, this Southern upbringing would lay the foundation for Vanessa's future in songwriting.

“Moonlight Social has managed to create a sound that is as exciting as it is original — no easy feat for ANY artist, let alone an act so new to the recording business! I also admire and am drawn to their commitment to excellence and stretching for that next rung on the artistic ladder; a quality rarely found in this era of “famous-first, game-show celebrity, ball-cap is the new hat act” pabulum currently inundating we Country fans.”

tylercannonOne of the regional music scene’s freshest faces, Tyler Cannon is throwing his trademark hat into the ring as a young man already a few years into being a singer, songwriter, and performer, adding “recording artist” to his resume with the summer 2011 release of his debut Look At Me. A punchy, melodic shot of guitar-driven rock & roll and plainspoken Texas country, it’s a promising first step but in another way a culmination of Cannon’s musical journey.

    Matt Harlan

    9:00 pm

Matt-HarlanHouston favorite, Matt Harlan is a troubadour of the first degree, bringing his handcrafted songs to stages across his home state of Texas, the USA and Europe.

Harlan is a winner of multiple songwriting accolades, from outfits like American Songwriter, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Billboard. He was named Singer-Songwriter of the Year in the 2013 Texas Music Awards and was featured alongside a stellar cast of characters (Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark) in the documentary, “For the Sake of the Song.”

His first two studio albums were well received by national and international Americana radio, both earning the #1 spot on the Euro Americana Chart. “Raven Hotel” his third – and possibly best – record also hit the top spot on the Euro charts after its release in 2014. As with each collection, the newest one features a musical roux that showcases Harlan’s literary grit with a variety of moods to fit the many themes on the record.

In his recent travels, Matt has shared stages with Americana greats such as Guy Clark, James McMurtry and up-and-comers like John Fullbright.

    Ryan Brewer

    9:00 pm

A singer/songwriter by trade, Ryan M. Brewer is more accurately described as a traveling musical storyteller. Having always placed the primary importance on lyricism, his music tends to float effortlessly between genres...each individual song falls precisely where it needs to in order to most accurately tell the story. Finding influence in everything from John Mayer to Rod Stewart, from Mumford and Sons to Pete Townshend...you're likely to hear just about any genre pop up in a Ryan M. Brewer tune. Brewer's vocal range is impressive, his song structure is challenging, and his guitar work is intricate.

Charles Phil Peters IV presents Kenny the Spider and Friends

    9:00 pm

    Charles Phil Peters IV Presents

Kenny the Spider (KTS)started when Chris Zimmerman and Austen Gustine wanted to start a cover band and after the first Jam with Charles Peters it was obvious the chemistry was to cool but not as a cover band but as a creative musical force that rocks with the best of them. Charles laying down the bass from hell and searing vocals, Austen beating the soul out of his guitar and Chris keeping it all tied together on that backbeat. KTS is currently working on a demo and an album will soon follow so keep your eyes peeled or go see Kenny the Spider which have been spotted playing in downtown Houston and Conroe erea music venues

    Ray Cashman

    9:00 pm

Raw and rough in the very best uses of the words; it is primal and in a sense savage, coarse, unpolished, and yet sincere and honest. The music is a melting pot of swamp, Cajun, psychedelic, Preservation Hall jazz, some punk in there too for good measure. It is an interesting hodge-podge of music and the band behind Ray Cashman fits right in there. If you are looking for the polish and smoothness of a Lyle Lovett or Yvette Landry or even Steve Riley - no. This is the un-adulterated mash up of a man/band that plays with passion and feeling and honesty and subtly be damned.

    Event Image

Chad Ware has been playing music most of his life. He started playing guitar at age 10 and by his early 20?s was making quite a name for himself in the Houston area as a lead guitar player. Chad eventually went on to play lead guitar for major acts such as Perfect Stranger, Janie Fricke, Rick Trevino, and Cory Morrow. Chad has played all across the country on some of the largest venues including the privilege of playing on the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennesse. These days Chad has his own band and they are tearing it up. With Chad’s great guitar skills and killer vocals he has put together a “Super Group” of musicians with just as much experience as him to form a powerhouse country band. Their approach to music is unique and original, they have a sound that is becoming the talk around Texas. There is no doubt that those who catch Chad Ware band playing will be completely blown away by the level of talent and energy that they bring to their shows.

    Les Richardson

    8:30pm

    NASHVILLE TOURING ARTIST

Les Richardson was born and raised on a ranch in White Salmon, Washington. A small community about 1 hour east of Portland, Oregon. At the young age of 12, Les decided to give up his dirt bike and follow his true calling of music. His first Fender Telecaster guitar was given to him by his late grandfather, Calvin Richardson. After playing gigs like singing the National Anthem for the Portland Trailblazers, singing in bars, rodeos and fairs all around the Pacific Northwest, even bought his own tour bus, it was time to take his talent along with him million dollar voice to the next level and move to Nashville.

Since moving to Nashville, Les Richardson and his rockin' Live Band has appeared on such shows as Star Search and Nashville Star, and has performed at the Ryman Auditorium and on the Grand Ol’ Opry stage numerous times.

    Brad Boyer with Ridgley Walker

    9:00

Brad Boyer is a singer/songwriter from Houston, TX who has honed his craft in the beer joints, ice houses, and road side honky tonks as well as the finer listening rooms of the big city. He tells his stories with honesty and clarity wrapped in a genuine Americana feel. As a Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Finalist, his debut album of original material (produced by Rich Brotherton) was well received and earned him the Texas Music Awards "Rising Star" award. Now, Brad has another Kerrville Folk Festival Finalist and a new record, the "Montagu Hotel" produced by Lisa Morales.

“ It’s great to have the likes of Joe Ely and Cindy Cashdollar on this record, but Brad Boyer’s songs carry the record all by themselves. Some beautiful Texas ballads and some really rockin’ tunes make for an all around outstanding release from a great Texas artist.”- Roark Smith, KPFT Houston (Texas Music Awards DJ of the year 3 yrs running)

“Brad Boyer has a little bit of west Texas in him, that dust gets all over everything.” - Joe

Mike’s music has been compared to artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers. Though his influences come from a wide variety of music. This truly eclectic mix includes artists such as Led Zeppelin, Gun N Roses, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Stone Temple Pilots, Ledbelly, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many more. The ability to be diverse is what sets Amabile apart from other artists in the Texas circuit. The fact that he can play country, blues, rock and anything in between allows him to perform at a large variety of venues. JESS BELLE  Growing up on the Central Coast, 1hr north of Sydney, Jessica Belle came from a musical family. But it wasn't until Jess reached the age of 18 that she decided to take the song writing path.

With influence's such as Lucinda Williams, Bill Chambers & Kasey Chambers, 12 years down the line and Jess hasn't looked back.
'Song writing for me is telling a story and hopefully, telling it well. Majority of the artist's I listen to and love today are songwriters. I think nothing grabs you more in a song than the truth.'
2015 will see singer/songwriter Jessica Belle release her much anticipated 3rd album produced by Bill Chambers.

A common thread that appears in her first album 'Just Walk Away' and her second album 'Free All Year', will be relevant in this coming album.
With a piece of her heart attached to every lyric, '10,000 Tales' sees a much stronger and mature Jessica Belle emerge from the shadows from where these songs were written.

    Alicia Atkins

    9:00

With a varied style, and voice "as sweet as honey," Alicia's lived and played in much of the world; including France, Italy, India, and Australia. Although Alicia is originally from just outside of Austin, TX; the forthcoming EPs were independently recorded in two of these far away places - India and Australia.

In 2012, Alicia moved to Australia and quickly created a buzz in Melbourne's local music scene, playing frequently at venues like the Standard, Old Bar, Retreat, and Wesley Anne. Alicia recorded her debut EP “Birds of a Feather” with engineer Joe Ferguson at Decibels Studio on April 25th, 2013 with some of Melbourne’s finest - Pete Fidler on dobro and banjo and Josh Bridges (of Mustered Courage) on bass. After the release at Melbourne’s Worker’s Club, Alicia toured nationally, and received airplay on over 100 radio stations throughout the country. For her audience in the United States, Alicia is now officially releasing a slightly altered version of this EP entitled “My Hometown.”

Since moving back to the Austin area, Alicia has been playing solo, duo, and full band shows at venues around Austin like the Rattle Inn, Blackheart, Poodies, Bangers, and Green Mesquite BBQ. Alicia also plays frequently in Dallas and Fort Worth at venues like the White Elephant Saloon, the Shipping & Receiving Bar, and Woodshed Smokehouse; and venues in the Hill country and New Braunfels like Inwood Estates, Texas Hills Winery, the Pour Haus and Adobe Verde.

    Chase Gassaway Tio

    9:00 pm

At only 29 years old, singer-songwriter Chase Gassaway has more musical experience than most artists twice his age. And he’s putting it to good use with the release of his second solo album, Certain Circles, his first full-length record in nearly a decade.

A lifelong Texan, Gassaway studied music composition and theory in college, honing his skills as a composer by creating works for a wide range of ensembles from choirs to full orchestras, as well as composing the score to short film Take Two. He has also been trained in classical guitar and voice, and plays a variety of instruments from banjolele to reed organ. His training, and the onstage lessons he’s learned as a solo performer and member of groups such as Canaries in the Coal Mine and formally the Matchmaker Band, has resulted in multi-textured pop songs that recall the Head & the Heart and Ben Folds. In a Chase Gassaway song, it’s not unusual to hear strings, horns, woodwinds and piano accompanying Gassaway’s engaging lyrics and slightly husky vocals, which might remind listeners of Jakob Dylan’s.chase gassaway

    Pecos Hank CD Release Party!!

Hank Schyma and a few of his friends come together to celebrate Pecos Hank's new CD.

    Event ImageAbout « southernbacktones

“Los Tormentos de Amor” (1998): Clever surf-punk ditties played with precocious passion, all owing allegiance to a strong “whatever-a-billy” or “Spaghetti Western” influence. Quite the classic, the album has become an underground jewel and sells for upwards of one hundred bucks.

The Formula (2002): A furious denial and overthrow of the pearl button, greaser-roots-rock heritage. Punk-ish songs of superficial lust gone wrong dove-tailed with South-of-the-border, Tex-Mex crooners.

The third album, simply self-titled “Southern Backtones” (2007):  A dark cinematic embracement of Brit-pop and psychedelia in a philosophical search for more bohemian influences.  Songs “Forever” and “Everything” were featured in the indie feature film “Drop Dead Sexy” starrring Jason Lee and Crispin Glover.  Music Video “Forever” (produced by Zenfilm) has had international airplay on MTV2, MuchMusic Canada, CNBC and more.

“Cinematic songs begging for a movie to live up to their promise.” San Francisco Bay Times

“Brooding paeans to loves won, lost, and unrequited infused with smart, poppish melodies.  The only way some of this stuff could get any beautifully darker is if it grew black wings and flew away.”  Fort Worth Weekly

    Rhapsody

Kimberly M'Carver's seemingly Guy Clark-influenced Country-Folk songs radiate romantic Southern nighttime air that's good for breathing in with each chord change. Her songs transcend pure prairie soul, with the warmest tones to comfort your ears since your first experience with a Phil Spector-produced hit. M'Carver's ethereal coos and pastoral croons are so hypnotizing that you'll fantasize about her singing with other people. One listen to a love song by M'Carver and you'll find yourself thinking things like, "What would it sound like if she sang close harmony with Emmylou Harris?" or, "Damn, I'd love to hear her sing one with Dolly and Dwight."

Many calluses and years later, he emerged as a seasoned guitarist, bassist and back-up vocalist on tours of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and the Southeastern U.S. with his hometown friend and mentor, Adam Hood..

    The Powell Brothers

    9:00pm

Blake and Taylor Powell are two multi-instrumentalists from Houston, Texas. They first toured together in 2006 as a hired backing band, and continued to play as much as they could until finally escaping high school. After briefly attending music school, both have worked as songwriters, producers, band members, music directors and session players for more than 30 artists internationally. Their playing can be heard on numerous albums, TV shows, movies, and they continue to travel and perform across North America.
